What do you think of 30 beats per minute?

For a month or so my heart has been irregular. Beat.beat, beat,

stop.............pound. Beat beat beat stop.........pound. Christmas eve I drank about a sm. bottle of wine(over the whole day) ate

maybe 5 %26quot;special%26quot; cookies. Later that night I got weak, sorta nauseated like I was gonna faint. Then the next thing I remember paramedics were carying me out to the ambulance with stuff in place to paddle me.(jumpstart) Said my heart rate went down to 30 per min. Gave me potassium and baby asprin

and sent me home. What do you think is up? After $900.00 ambulance ride and no insurance I%26#039;m not jumpin into a dr. visit.

Sounds like it could be a 3rd degree heart block if your rate was truly 30bpm and your hr is not normally low, albeit 30 is not normal, having a lower than %26quot;normal%26quot; hr is possible IF the patient is workout nut, sports joc, any type of heavy cardio buildup daily. These type people have a lower than normal HR

Now if your heart beat had close to that type pattern that you mentioned %26amp; paramedics placed the paddles on you, they were not going to jumpstart you as you say, they were preparing to PACE you which is helping your heart maintain a certain higher rate. Yes you are awake and yes it is painful. You are essentially getting an electrical shock every few seconds. Now as far as the asprin you say they gave you,,maybe. Potasassium might have been mistaken for (NS) normal saline, or (LR) lactated ringers. Did you refuse to go to the ER? that is the only way a Paramedic could let you out and %26quot;send you home%26quot; as you put it. Otherwise after giving you drugs (yes asprin is a drug) and leaving you home borders on abandament.

what I think happened is you refused to go since you knew lab work would be done and those %26quot;special cookies%26quot; would be analized.

Not judging you just 10 yrs as a Paramedic

Depending how old your are with a pulse of 30, being jump started and asprin. It sounds like you had a mild heart attack and you should definitly get it checked out because it could lead to worse conditions. Pay the money or it could mean your life.

They weren%26#039;t %26#039;jumpstarting your heart%26#039; they were pacing you. 30bpm is not dangerous if you feel O.K. In well conditioned athletes it%26#039;s normal and good. However, fainting is NOT normal or good.

The fact that they gave you potassium may have been because you were low...it%26#039;s essential to good heart function as it is one of the main chemicals that control the rhythm of your heart.

However, if it%26#039;s STILL happening you may need a pacemaker. It%26#039;s possible that your heart rate could go so low for long enough that it could do serious damage and may even cause death. But it is easily treated if you can find the cause.

Going to a doctor is the only way you will know if it was a solitary incident (which is possible) or if it was because of some type of arrythmia or chemical imbalance.

They may put you on medication or they may insert a pacemaker, but this should definately not be ignored.

A month a is long time to have that feeling, and if it was that long before anything happened there%26#039;s a chance it could be a little less dangerous, but the bottom line is: you fainted, and it could happen again.

Sounds like the problem was not a heart attack but a cardiac Dysrhythmia. Did you see a cardiologist, it sounds like you have some sort of Atrioventricular block. The %26quot;Beat beat stop%26quot; As you referred to is classic of something called a Second Degree type 1 Atrioventricular Block. However a heart rate of 30bpm sounds like a 3rd degree block, which is much worse. You should find the paramedics that helped you and thank them. They no doubt saved your live if they did not %26quot;pace%26quot; you, you would of died. Seriously see a cardiologist! This problem can only get worse with out treatment good luck!
