CO Poisoning/Sleeping in Car with windows rolled up?

I was recently in San Diego, I had left the hotel room out of anger at my roomate and decided to sleep in the car. I will describe the conditions: Pretty Chilly, maybe 60-70 degrees, VERY humid, the parking lot was kind of dripping, leather interior (Dont know if that has to do with it)

So my twin and I (girls about 5%26#039;3 110 pounds. (We%26#039;re 21)) fell asleep but about three hours later we woke up terribly hot, having trouble breathing, our heads pounding, our heart palpitating. We went for some air and aerated the car, not sensing anything wrong (we%26#039;re stupid!). We came back after 30 min or so and decided to sleep only another 30 min. This was the worst, I woke up and tried to move my arm but I was unable, I felt my heart rate pounding and it was very hard to breath. I %26#039;slept%26#039; for another 10 minutes, giving up the fight. We FINALLY got out but has anyone felt that? Can you die from it? Was in Carbon poisoning? The car was not on. The windows were completely rolled up.

I wouldn%26#039;t think it carbon monoxide if the car wasn%26#039;t running, but carbon dioxide is a possibility. The car%26#039;s seal would have to be pretty tight and not let in any air, but two people .. six hours breathing time ..yeah. It certainly could be.

Either one is serious, as it displaces oxygen in the bloodstream. I lost two friends to CO poisoning while they were sitting in the driveway talking. Never realized they were getting in trouble. Sounds like you were lucky.

If the car was not on then it cant be carbon monoxide poisoning. However, I would recommend that you see a physician giving your symptoms. Good luck..

If the car wasn%26#039;t on, it can%26#039;t be carbon monoxide poisoning. Is the car new? Maybe it was some chemical/fumes in the car since you were both feeling those symptoms. I don%26#039;t think any leather cleaners would do that (I%26#039;ve slept in my car on the leather seats without a problem). Did you have any other chemicals in the car?

Also it could be that all the windows were up. Cars are not air-tight, obviously, but without any circulation there%26#039;s not a lot of fresh oxygen coming in and the lower levels of it would cause the headaches and the breathing troubles.

I wouldn%26#039;t worry, this isn%26#039;t something that will have lasting effects. Of course, if you are worried, you can always ask your doctor. I hope this helps! :)
