My boyfriend suffers episodes of breathlessness and pale skin, what is it?

I am a concerned girlfriend, my boyfriend suffers episodes at random times, maybe once a week or every 7-10 days without cause or warning. His symptoms when the attacks happen are:

*Gaunt/Pale face dark circles round eyes

*Breathlessness

*Racing Heart

*Occasional numbness in little finger/calves

*Pressure headaches

*Clammy skin

*Restlessness/Anxiety/Short temper

He has had numerous ECG%26#039;s that have been fine and a blood test which came back normal. He doesn%26#039;t suffer from Chest pain when it happens, however was perscribed beta blockers to calm his heart rate and lower blood pressure which have worked well and reduced symptoms greatly.

Most all the symptoms you list could be panic attacks...with the ECG coming back o.k and the fact that you also list short temper and anxiety...Most people don`t know the difference between a physical attack and a panic attack when it happens to them, they will swear it`s a heart problem or some other physical problem...he needs to go see his Doctor and explain that he might be having panic attacks then they can take it from there...I`ve suffered from them when I was 19 years old right after my mother died.

Think you need to find a better Dr. Sounds like some disease or heart ailment to me.

I%26#039;ll bet they%26#039;re seizures. Those sound like the same exact symptoms my sister has when she has them.

i am no expert but it sounds like some sort of panic attack. is he stressed? or got things on his mind

maybe he should ask his doctor to refer him to get an MRI scan of his head this would detect if he is suffering seizures. Has he been tested for anaemia as this can cause your heart to race which would cause numbness and tingling people who suffer from this also tend to look very pale

if ur bf has been checked out by a dr and his e.k.g. is normal, his problem is anxiety attacks. they may come on at any time. he has all the classic systems. to treat this, he must realize, he has underlings problems. such as things that r bothering him, but he dousent relize it. tell him to talk to a close friend, or a phycologist and if he does this, he will find the problem will go away. it dosent happen overnite. and his systems will go away. god bless

I think I have answered your boyfriend before on this subject. He was waiting on thyroid test results I think. These episodes are called anxiety attacks and although very very frightening not really harmful. Is he taking the beta blockers on a regular basis? They should be taken same time each day. They will eventually settle down but it is possible that some area in his life is making him un-happy and causing them. It is stress related in most cases. I am a nurse and experienced this with patients and also went through a similar thing myself a few years ago. I am now off the beta blockers and 100% fine. so hang in there. Give him hugs and try talking him through them when they occur. x x x all the best.

I have a condition called inappropriate sinus tachycardia and that caused similar symptoms. Has he had a 24ECG and an exercise stress test. My condition was diagnosed after ruling out everything else.

If the medications are working then be happy with that otherwise you need to press your consultant for a more accurate diagnosis.

I hope he feel better soon.

Edit:

I am a little concerned about some of the answers above. Beta blockers would be the drug of choice for tachycardia and high blood pressure and the cause of these symptoms could be anything from stress to a heart condition and Iam sure the doctor has looked at these possibilities and is making an informed decision.
