My OB freaked me out today...?

I am 36 weeks and 2 days. A fingertip dilated and my baby has dropped. When she was listening to her heart she commented how high her heart rate is. 166 I believe. She looked concerned and said it was on the extreme side of high but that she has always been high so she was not going to worry. But the thing is, now I am concerned. She had the concerned look on her face but did not say much even when I kept asking her. Has this happened to anyone else?? This is my first so I feel over nervous about everything. Thank you!!

Hmm.. I don%26#039;t know what she is worried about. That isn%26#039;t extreme at all! When I was expecting my daughter...her heart rate would fluctuate between the 150%26#039;s and 170%26#039;s and she is perfectly fine. My boys had lower heart rates, but that is apparently normal and my midwife insists that you can tell the babies sex this way. girls have a higher heart beat than boys and so far it has worked perfectly. 2 boys and one girl all with the correct heart rates for their sex. Perhaps you misinterpreted the look on her face, if she really was concerned she would have said something! Best of luck.

I wouldn%26#039;t worry if your doctor isn%26#039;t worried. Especially if your baby%26#039;s heart rate has been high before. I%26#039;m 32 weeks pregnant and my son%26#039;s heart rate measured at 172 last week.

There isnt any reason to be concerned, my entire pregnancy my baby%26#039;s heart beat has been around 164 or 166. Its normal Im sure. So maybe your doctor wasnt really concerned. But dont worry, my babys heartbeat is fast too. Good luck and congrats!

I don%26#039;t think 166 is high at all, so I%26#039;m not sure what she would mean by that. I%26#039;ve heard heartbeats as high as 180 before, with no concern.

Sweetie relax...if the doctor was concerned you would be at the hospital for testing...since you are at home everything is fine...on a few occasions my OB had odd faces but that is just one of those things. Just remember if something is/was wrong you%26#039;d be the first to know...it is in fact your baby.

yup, totally understand. dont stress, some babies just have a high heart rate, as a matter of fact my last one didnt adjust after he was born and had to have an emergency ekg. all turned out well.

if your ob didnt tell you to be worried i would just relax, she wouldnt run the risk if she felt there was something wrong. your little bugger is just ready for take off thats all

The average fetal heartrate is 110-160. 166 is only slightly higher than that, I certainly wouldn%26#039;t call it the extreme side of high. It is the extreme side of average. I would not worry. If this does not make you feel better, call your OB office. Ask to speak to a nurse to clarify that it is ok. Good Luck and Congrats on your first baby!

i am not a mother but i can tell u that it is normal. i know people that have had a baby and their heart rate has been like 170..don%26#039;t worry. its fine..if ur doctor doesn%26#039;t worrie then u shouldn%26#039;t worrie

Try not to worry. If your OB was really concerned, she would have given you a non stress test. If that was not normal, she would have sent you to the hospital.

To make your self feel better, sit down and relax and count the baby movements. I think that my OB told me that they baby should move 10 times (or more) in an hour. If the baby is doing that then in all likely hood he/she is not in distress and you do not need to worry.

i%26#039;m with lina b! my kiddo%26#039;s heart rate fluctuates a lot!!! he%26#039;s usually in the 150-165 range...as long as it isn%26#039;t too much over 170 your baby is just fine! it was probably just one of her active periods. she should have addressed your questions though...that wasn%26#039;t right! but i%26#039;m sure she is just fine!

Hi.I think you shouldn%26#039;t have n-e thing to worry about,especially if the dr. aint worried.i%26#039;ll be 36 wks in 2 days and my babys heartrate is always around 160-165 so you and the baby should be cool.Goodluck!!
