When walking hurts?

How can I keep my heart rate up when I walk for about 10 min and the sides of my feet cramp up and I have to stop? I have tried bike and walk and it%26#039;s still not doing it for me. Nothing past 15 min till the pain is so bad I have to stop/ I would love to work up a good sweat for about 30 to 40 min. HOW? Yep I am a 45 yr beginner, 2 weeks in and at this rate I will be done in another week. I need ideas! All the guys at the gym keep telling me it will pass...but I%26#039;m not getting a warm fuzzy over it.

When walking hurts?

The first thing you need to do is get your feet checked at the doc to find out what is causing the pain. Once the doc checkds this out then go to a store that specifically fits walking and running shoes and have the salesperson fit you with the proper shoes for what you will be doing. To many people think they can buy any old pair of shoes without being fitted and then wonder why they have sore feet.

When walking hurts?

maybe exercise in a pool -- Bodybuilding.com - - Water Exercise -- The wonderful thing about water is that it gives you natural resistance with absolutely no impact to the joints

When walking hurts?

You%26#039;ve only been at it for two weeks...give yourself time to %26quot;break in%26quot;. I suggest going at a comfortable pace for awhile then pick up your pace. Make sure you have a good piar of walking shoes and use these only for walking. Have a seperate pair of shoes for every day. Try doing some foot stretches before and after your walking session. Have someone at the gym (preferably a personal trainer) suggest some good stretches. Be aware of your form when you%26#039;re walking. Yes, it will pass eventually.

Try different shoes - ones with arch support. You should also place inserts in your shoes for arch support (this tidbit comes from my ortho surgeon).

Best of luck to you!

When walking hurts?

i agree, check it checked by a doc not the freakin%26#039; gym rats.

try a rebounder/mini trampoline

no impact and you can really work up a sweat on one.

and you don%26#039;t have to leave the house

or even put on clothes, for that matter
