Help night terrors?

I am a 30 yr old female and I have had night terrors since I was 10 years old or younger but that is when I remember them. The very few times I can remember them they have been about a home invader or a big black dog chasing me. When I was 10 I screamed so loud it woke up my grandmother who was hard of hearing downstairs with the door closed and a fan on. Usually I would wake up with an extremely sore throat and pounding heart rate. Now I am grown and am married and its funny, my mom warned my husband about them before we got married to prevent a him from having a heart attack. He says there is nothing that could have prepared him for them. I generally scream at the top of my lungs or yell something like 閳ユ涪here in here!閳?and usually jump out of the bed and run through the house. One time my husband had his pistol out looking for who had broken in and was ready to shoot someone I had him so convinced. I cope with my night terrors by trying to remember my dreams and try to see what triggers them. Stress seems to definitely trigger them. When my husband was overseas in the military in Iraq, I had a night terror that I remember閳?閳ユ窂in-Laden was peering through my window smiling at me.閳? Then I woke up with a sore throat and checking my doors to see if they were locked and my cats hiding under the bed!

It sounds like you have some issues to confront in your waking life. If you%26#039;ve self examined and come up with nothing, then I suggest seeing a good psychologist who specializes in sleep disorders. He may help you get to the root of the symbols which hold terror for you and resolve the issues. I don%26#039;t think self analysis or a quick fix is going to work in your case. Its lasted far too long. There is something very real going on. I%26#039;d see someone rather than continue to be prey to that sort of fear.

Good luck = )

Night terrors in adults are rare. Most people usually grow out of them as they age. My son used to have them when he was around 4 or 5, but they started fading around 6 for him. They used to raise the hair on the back of my neck when he had them, because whatever it was he saw was palpable and real for him, and the whole time he had them he was asleep.

We never figured out what the bad dreams were, but he would eventually stop, turn around, and go back to bed, and he never remembered them in the morning.

Below is a site that discusses them, maybe it can be of help to you.
